Illegal Dumping is a Serious Problem

Illegal dumping is the improper disposal of waste in public or private areas such as neighborhoods, parks, rural properties, and local bodies of water. Improperly disposed items like household garbage, mattresses, appliances, tires, building materials, chemicals, batteries, abandoned vehicles and boats, and yard waste are considered illegal dumping.

A record setting amount of illegally dumped garbage is polluting San Joaquin County. Illegal dumping accounts for 2,600 tons of trash in our communities, costing taxpayers over $1.3 million annually to clean up. It creates safety hazards, environmental damage, and diminishes our community’s quality of life.

Illegal dumping is a serious offense and may result in criminal prosecution and up to a $10,000 fine.
